Horse EW Bets
Just like Sports value betting, we find inefficiencies in the horse racing market.
The difference being, we’re utilizing the each-way mechanism to execute value bets.
What is an each-way bet?
-
Each-way is a betting strategy used in horse-racing, where a bettor places two bets on the same selection. One to win and one to place.
-
Each-way betting helps reduce the risk of losing the entire stake whilst increasing the chances of winning
-
By identifying value bets for each-way horse bets, we are adding another layer to your value betting strategy.
How Horse EW bets differ to Sports
Sports value bets extract value from match odds, we do the same with horses
Horse Racing
- Two bets in one: win and place
- Focus on anomalies in odds for place
- Pay-out for both place and win If horse wins
- Offers betting flexibility
- Higher value on winning
- Can still bet with stake limitations above £0.50
Example of a Horse EW Value Bet
Let's say there is a horse race with 10 runners, and one of the horses, "Checkmate" has odds of 13.0 to win the race. An each-way bet means you are placing two bets:
The place terms vary depending on the number of runners and the bookmaker, but let's assume the place terms are 1.25 the odds for the first 3 places.
Here's how the each-way bet would work:
Edge dashboard pops up with a Horse value bet – we state that these odds are undervalued for a win and EW bet
If Checkmate wins the race, you win your bet at odds of 13.0
If Checkmate finishes in one of the first three places (second or third), you win a fraction of the odds, which would be 1.25 of 13.0, or 4
So let's say you place a £10 each-way bet on Checkmate. Your total stake is £20 because you are placing two bets.
If Checkmate wins the race, you win both the win bet and the place bet.
Your return would be (£10 x 12) + (£10 x 3) = £120 + £30 = £150
If Checkmate finishes in one of the first three places, but does not win the race, you win only the place bet.
Your return would be £10 x 3 = £30
If Checkmate finishes outside the top three, you lose both bets and your return is £0.
In this example, not only are you able to hedge by betting on the horse to win and place, but you’re also capitalizing on the odd pricing inefficiencies thanks to Edge
Not only do you have a better chance of winning something even if the horse doesn't win the race, but the laws of probability are on your side to turn these into consistent profitable bets
- Potential for higher payouts if EW or outright bet wins
- Suitable for long shot bets due to EW mechanism
- Reduced risk as win possibilities are spread
- Increased chance of winning
